Octos Adventure

(2014) Verk for åtte tromboner, bestil av professor Jesper Juul Windahl, Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium, med støtte fra Det norske komponistfond.

For eight trombones, commissioned by Jesper Juul Windahl, Royal Danish Academy of Music, with support from The Norwegian Composers Fund.

Verket er bestilt til en konsert under ITA i 2015. Det består av fire satser:

1. Hunting Pan

2. Waltz for Wendy

3. The Taste of Hook

4. Careless

Duration: ca. 17´

The piece has four movements, which are all somehow related to the second film about the boy from Neverland, Peter Pan.

It is not film-music at all and the music is only loosely related. But sometime it can be interesting just to reveal your inspirational source.

1.  Chasing Pan
The main action scenes are when Captain Hook tries to catch the flying Peter Pan.

2. Waltz for Wendy
Wendy, one of the main figures in the first movie, does not have a sentral part in the second film. It is her daughter, Jane, who ends up in Neverland. However, Wendy knows what it´s all about, and in the final scene when she meets Peter Pan again after all these years, he says: "You´ve changed", and she replies: "Not really, not ever". This is a moment of melancholy worth a waltz. The eight trombones are devided into two groups, sometime playing in pitches only one 1/4-tone away from each other.

3. The Taste of Hook
In the both films, Captain Hook is Peter Pans nemesis. Hooks nemesis in the first film, is a huge crocodile. In the second film it is a silly, but giant, octopus. When the octopus taste Hook for the first time, it reminds it of a delicious shrimp, and start to follow Hook and his boat.

4. Careless
What make us like him, is his boastful and careless nature. What make us discuss this fairytale figure, is his hate of adulthood, and his love for Wendy. Not a romantic love, more like replacing the idea of the mother he always wanted.
